Lanpec Contributes to New National Standard for Steel Spherical Tanks

The State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration have officially released the revised national standard GB/T12337-2026 for steel spherical tanks. The standard will take effect on April 1, 2027.

The standard was jointly drafted by 19 organizations, including Gansu Lanpec Petrochemical High-tech Equipment Co., Ltd., the China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute, Hefei General Machinery Research Institute and Sinopec Engineering Incorporation. It replaces the previous GB/T12337-2014 and GB/T17261-2011 and becomes the core basis for the design, manufacture, assembly welding, inspection and acceptance of spherical tanks in China.

The new standard focuses on novel structures, new technologies, low-temperature high-strength materials and safety control. It adds new structures such as double-layer spherical shells, introduces technical requirements for thermal storage spherical tanks, liquefied hydrocarbon spherical tanks and composite steel spherical tanks, updates the system of low-temperature resistant high-performance materials, and refines requirements for failure assessment, non-destructive testing and quality control to accommodate emerging application scenarios in energy storage, new energy and the chemical industry. Lanpec stated that it will use the new standard as a benchmark, continuously iterate and optimize its design schemes and quality control processes, and provide technical assessment and scheme optimization services for the transition between the old and new standards.
