DEBEM Air-Operated Diaphragm Pumps Dedicated to Peptide Workshops

DEBEM pneumatic diaphragm pumps dedicated to peptide production workshops require stricter consideration of GMP compliance, explosion-proof safety, and reliability in large-scale production.

The drainage media in peptide workshops have several distinctive characteristics that directly determine pump selection:

Complex media composition with strong corrosiveness. Peptide solid-phase synthesis makes extensive use of DMF, dichloromethane (DCM), methanol, piperidine, trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), and diethyl ether as reaction media and washing solvents, generating large volumes of waste liquid. These solvent combinations impose very high chemical compatibility requirements on the pump's wetted materials.

Prominent flammable and explosive risks. DCM, methanol, diethyl ether, and similar solvents are all flammable; workshop drainage areas typically fall within explosion-proof zones, so pumps must possess intrinsically safe characteristics.

Possible presence of resin particles. Drainage may carry solid-phase synthesis resin particles, requiring the pump to have adequate particle passage capability while avoiding excessive shear that could break down the resin.

GMP compliance requirements. Equipment in production-scale peptide workshops must comply with cGMP and relevant FDA regulations; pump materials must meet FDA standards, and the structure should be easy to clean with no dead-leg residue.

Large drainage volumes. Production-scale peptide synthesizers (such as the CS936X series, with reactors up to 50-1000 L) produce large amounts of waste liquid in each synthesis cycle, so drainage pumps must have stable continuous transfer capability.

In industry practice, pneumatic diaphragm pumps are the standard configuration for drainage on production-scale peptide synthesizers. CS Bio's CS936 series production peptide synthesizers explicitly use nitrogen-driven PTFE pneumatic diaphragm pumps for solvent transfer and reaction liquor discharge. The HJ-AP fully automatic peptide synthesizer likewise uses a 316L pneumatic diaphragm pump for drainage.

- Intrinsically explosion-proof: purely pneumatic drive, with no motor and no electric sparks, naturally meeting the requirements for use in explosion-proof zones without the need for additional explosion-proof motors or complex explosion-proof certification.

- No mechanical seal: the diaphragm completely isolates the medium from the drive components, eliminating leakage risks and preventing solvent vapor escape, in line with GMP requirements for cross-contamination control.

- Dry-run capable: no damage to the pump when drainage is finished and lines are emptied, suited to intermittent drainage operation.

- Wide range of material options: wetted materials available in PTFE, PVDF, 316L stainless steel, and more, precisely matching the corrosiveness of different solvents.
