According to a March 3 report from Sohu.com, in many industrial sectors, the production of pure water is a crucial step, especially in industries such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverage. However, dissolved carbon dioxide in pure water not only affects the conductivity and desalination rate of pure water and causes equipment corrosion, but may also trigger carbonate scaling problems, resulting in serious consequences such as degraded effluent water quality or lower product yield. Therefore, how to remove carbon dioxide from pure water efficiently and economically has become a focus of attention for many enterprises and research institutions.

Currently, traditional technologies typically use heating, aeration, and chemical methods. Although these were once widely applied, their shortcomings have become increasingly obvious with technological progress and rising production requirements. The heating method consumes enormous energy, not only raising production costs but also possibly interfering with other components in the water; the aeration method is simple to operate but inefficient and unable to meet the urgent demands of large-scale production; the chemical method can effectively remove carbon dioxide, but because it introduces chemical reagents, it brings additional troubles for subsequent water treatment and also faces numerous environmental protection challenges.

The new pure water carbon dioxide (CO2) removal technology is a membrane separation product that removes gases in water, such as carbon dioxide and oxygen, based on the principle of diffusion. Its working principle is based on water flowing on one side of hollow fiber membranes, while the other side of the hollow fiber membranes is evacuated with a vacuum or subjected to gas stripping, or a combination of both. The surface of the hydrophobically treated hollow fiber membranes has many micropores, which allow gas molecules to pass through while blocking the penetration of water molecules. Under the negative pressure of vacuum or gas stripping, dissolved gases in the water on one side of the hollow fiber membranes continuously move through the micropores to the other side of the hollow fiber membranes and are carried away by the vacuum or stripping gas, thereby achieving the removal of dissolved gases from water. The degassing membrane contains a large number of hollow fibers to expand the gas-liquid interface area, thereby increasing the gas removal rate. Degassing membranes can reduce dissolved oxygen concentration to below 1 ppb and dissolved carbon dioxide concentration to below 1 ppm.

Highly efficient carbon dioxide removal: Degassing membrane technology separates gases through micropores on the membrane surface, enabling highly efficient carbon dioxide removal with degassing efficiency of up to 99.99%, oxygen concentration in the effluent below 1 ppb, and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration below 1 ppm.

Compact equipment, space saving: Degassing membrane equipment has a compact structure and a small footprint, suitable for new projects and retrofitting of existing equipment, and is easy to install and maintain.

Low energy consumption, energy saving and environmentally friendly: Compared with traditional decarbonation towers, degassing membrane technology has low energy consumption and low operating costs, meeting green production requirements.

Easy operation, high degree of automation: Degassing membrane equipment is simple to operate, highly automated, quick to start up, and has low maintenance costs.

Reduced secondary pollution: The stripping gas side does not come into direct contact with the pure water, avoiding the risk of secondary contamination.

Improved process efficiency: Removing carbon dioxide can reduce corrosion of ion exchange resins, extend their regeneration cycle, and improve the effluent quality of EDI or CDI systems.

Flexibility and scalability: The modular design supports flexible expansion, and the scale of the equipment can be adjusted according to demand.

Protection of product quality: In the semiconductor and flat panel display industries, removing carbon dioxide can protect the quality of chips or display panels.
