Veolia Completes USD 58 Million Princeton Meadows Wastewater Facility, Reusing 32 Million Gallons Annually
Veolia marked completion of the Princeton Meadows Wastewater Treatment Facility in Plainsboro, New Jersey with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The USD 58 million investment replaces a 55-year-old plant, featuring advanced ultraviolet disinfection and high-efficiency biological treatment, treating 475 million gallons and reusing 32 million gallons of reclaimed water annually, sited above the original floodplain for climate resilience.
On 7 October, Veolia celebrated completion of the Princeton Meadows Wastewater Treatment Facility in Plainsboro Township, New Jersey with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The USD 58 million investment replaces a 55-year-old plant, serving approximately 11,000 residents and businesses. It features climate-resilient infrastructure, advanced ultraviolet disinfection technology from Veolia, high-efficiency biological treatment and energy-efficient equipment, designed to enhance treatment performance, withstand extreme weather and meet increasingly stringent environmental requirements.
The facility treats 475 million gallons of wastewater and reuses 32 million gallons of reclaimed water annually - equivalent to 48 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Built for greater climate resilience, the new plant sits on higher ground outside the original 100-year floodplain, helping protect critical infrastructure from flooding.
The project extends Veolia's 55-year water reuse history at the site. Since 1971 the facility has supplied Middlesex County with 1.4 billion gallons of reclaimed water for irrigation at a county golf course, conserving local water resources.
The CEO of Veolia in North America said the next-generation facility exemplifies the company's commitment to environmental security, public health and sustainable infrastructure, combining significant capital investment, advanced treatment technology and climate-resilient design to deliver reliable service for decades while continuing a longstanding commitment to water reuse. The CEO of Veolia Regulated Water in North America noted that rather than simply upgrade the existing plant, the team reimagined it.
The Princeton Meadows project forms part of Veolia's broader New Jersey investment. Through its GreenUp programme the company invests more than USD 150 million annually statewide to support water quality, reliability and long-term sustainability for its 1.1 million customers. As part of the celebration, Veolia also announced a USD 10,000 contribution to the Plainsboro Recreation Department's Water Science and Sustainability Education Program.
