WABAG Wins Over ₹10 Billion Reliance Order for Jamnagar Desalination and Remineralisation Plant
India's VA Tech WABAG has announced a mega domestic order worth over ₹10 billion from Reliance Industries to build a desalination and remineralisation plant at Jamnagar, Gujarat. The facility will use seawater and brackish-water reverse osmosis and will be executed in phases over 25 months.
According to a regulatory filing, Indian pure-play water technology group VA Tech WABAG has secured an order from Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) valued at over ₹10 billion — classified by the company as a "mega" domestic order — to build a large-scale desalination plant and a remineralisation facility at Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Key design parameters:
- Desalination capacity: 8,400 m³/h initially, expandable to 12,600 m³/h (approximately 302 million litres per day);
- Remineralisation capacity: 3,000 m³/h;
- Treatment train: pretreatment using lamella clarifiers, dissolved air flotation filters (DAFF) and ultrafiltration (UF), followed by seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) and brackish-water reverse osmosis (BWRO), with chemical dosing, backwash, treated-water storage and brine outfall systems;
- Remineralisation section: limestone filters with lime handling, carbon dioxide storage and dosing facilities, plus treated water storage and pumping systems.
WABAG's scope covers design, engineering, supply, installation, pre-commissioning and commissioning of the desalination and remineralisation facilities, together with the Performance Guarantee Test Run (PGTR). The order will be executed in phases over 25 months from contract commencement.
The project strengthens industrial water infrastructure at Reliance's Jamnagar refining and petrochemicals hub. It follows a "medium-sized" effluent treatment plant order from the same client roughly two months earlier.
Following the announcement, WABAG shares rose more than 8% intraday on 27 October, snapping an eight-session losing streak.
