Fanchang Economic Development Zone Wastewater Treatment Plant, Wuhu (60,000 m³/d civil works; 30,000 m³/d Phase I in operation)

The Fanchang Economic Development Zone wastewater treatment plant in Fanchang District, Wuhu, Anhui, is a key municipal environmental infrastructure project for the district. On 10 September 2026 the intake valve was opened and effluent flowed through the pretreatment units, completing full-line commissioning and bringing the plant into operation. The civil works were built in one stage for a total capacity of 60,000 m³/d; this commissioning phase energizes equipment for 30,000 m³/d and includes a dedicated 5,000 m³/d pretreatment unit for chemical wastewater. Industrial and domestic streams are collected and treated separately, and the main train combines modified A²/O biological treatment, catalytic ozonation and deep-bed filtration. The biological stage removes carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus, ozonation breaks down recalcitrant organics, and deep-bed filtration provides final polishing; effluent consistently meets Grade 1A of GB 18918-2002. Fanchang is a national-level green park whose enterprise base and output have grown steadily, leaving the previous treatment capacity close to saturation and exposing problems of mixed industrial and domestic sewers and fluctuating influent quality. Building the civil works once while phasing equipment avoids idle investment and leaves room for expansion, and the separate chemical pretreatment unit shaves peak loads before the main biological system. With the plant online, the park's sewage collection rate, treatment rate and pollutant reduction all rise, and the tail water is discharged stably within limits, closing an environmental infrastructure gap and freeing capacity for further investment.
