Yangzi Petrochemical Cooling Water Blowdown Treatment & Water Reuse Project

Implemented by Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. in Nanjing, Jiangsu. Construction started in October 2022 as supporting environmental infrastructure for the group's refinery restructuring project; the 1,200 m³/h reuse unit was the first environmental facility completed. Using ultrafiltration plus reverse osmosis, it treats cooling-water blowdown for reuse in the cooling and demineralised water systems, cutting both fresh water intake and effluent discharge. The unit completed commissioning and produced on-spec industrial water at first start-up in March 2024, with average reuse of 20,000 m³/d and total company reuse of about 36,000 m³/d, lifting the reuse rate to 80%.
